Here’s my October column, the Norwich, CT version. It amazes me to think that a few years ago I was just a guy with a blog and now my writing is being syndicated across the country. The only thing that would amaze me more is if I found out that people actually read it.
At 3 a.m., Sept. 10, I was shaken from my slumber by a sudden and disturbing clash of … silence. The power had gone out, and the white noise that serenades my slumber stopped playing.
I would sleep no more that night.
For reasons I can’t explain, whenever our house falls off the grid, I reflexively assume the role of sentry over the darkened surroundings. Trying to get back to sleep is futile when hearkened by this imagined call to duty.
